. . . .

The meeting returns once again to the recently renovated National Convention Centre in Canberra where the highly successful and well attended ComBio2001 meeting was held. ComBio2008 promises to be a comprehensive and broad ranging scientific event with an exciting list of invited speakers and topics.

The conference venue is a five minute walk from the site of Floriade, Canberra’s annual spring flower festival, and is within walking distance of the National Museum of Australia, the National Gallery and many other national landmarks.

Canberra picture The Committee is determined that this conference will be both scientifically rewarding and socially enjoyable. In addition to our popular ‘mixer’ on the Sunday evening, registrants are also invited to a ‘cocktail reception’ to be held on the Monday evening in the Exhibition area. These functions as well as lunches on the first three days of the conference are included in the registration fee.

The conference dinner will be held on Wednesday night at Old Parliament House. Old Parliament House made headlines for more than sixty years, from 1927 to 1988, as home to Australia's Federal Parliament. Today, this much-loved heritage building offers the visitor a unique glimpse into Australia's fascinating past. The conference has sponsored full registrants’ and student members’ dinner tickets to the tune of $25 and $40 respectively, to make the night a little more affordable. However, tickets will be limited so please ensure you book early to avoid disappointment. The meeting will conclude with Farewell Drinks on the Thursday afternoon, which will be combined with the Closing Address and Presentation of Awards.

I look forward to seeing you in Canberra.

Frances Shannon
