Dr James Tsatsaronis is a teaching-focussed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, La Trobe University.
I have coordinated 2nd year undergraduate biochemistry and molecular biology subjects taught to students studying Biomedicine, Animal and Veterinary Bioscience, Agriculture and Nutrition since 2019. In this time, I've been recognised for leading the redevelopment of the 2nd year curriculum, and for integrating innovative approaches into my teaching practice.
As an educational researcher, I’m become very interested in the role technology plays in shaping student learning in molecular bioscience. Recent technological advances have greatly improved our ability to visualise and interact with models of cells, molecules and other three-dimensional structures through different formats such as 3D printed models and in VR. Generative AI as a technology in particular poses both challenges but also opportunities for creating interactive and dynamic learning experiences in physical and online class settings. I routinely experiment with emerging technologies to see how these might facilitate improved learning or student experience.
