ECPM19 – East Coast Protein Meeting
Date/Venue: 26-28th July 2019, Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
Details: The biennial East Coast Protein Meeting hosted by the Queensland Protein Group returns to Coffs Harbour in 2019. This joint initiative of the Queensland Protein Group and Sydney Protein Group provides an excellent arena for young protein scientists to present their work, and for young and established protein scientists alike to mix on an equal footing in a relaxed atmosphere.
This year’s keynote speakers are Dr Denise Wootten (Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences) and A/Prof Colin Jackson (ANU). 
Confirmed sponsors for this event are ATA Scientific, ASBMB (with additional sponsorship from the Queensland and NSW branches) and Formulatrix as well as the QPG and SPG.

ComBio2018 Travel Award
Date/Venue: 23-25th September 2018, International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney.
Details: The QPG once again called for applications from postdocs working in fields related to protein science to attend the 2018 ASBMB ComBio meeting with support from the QPG. Each year, QPG provides financial support for the best applicant to attend the meeting by offseting the costs assocaited with registration and travel. The prize winner recieves a guaranteed speaking slot at ComBio.
UPDATE: The winner of this year’s award was Dr Jocelyn Widagdo from the Queensland Brain Institute. Jocelyn presented her recent work on the role of ubiquitination on regulating the function of the fat-mass and obesity-associated (FTO) protein in memory consolidation.

ECPM17 – East Coast Protein Meeting
Date/Venue: 14th-16th July 2017, Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
Details: The biennial East Coast Protein Meeting was hosted by the Sydney Protein Group in Coffs Harbour from Friday, 14th of July to Sunday, 16th of July, 2017. This three-day conference was an excellent arena for established and young protein scientists to mix on an equal footing in a relaxed atmosphere. As always, one of the primary goals of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for younger protein scientists to present their work.
Keynote speakers this year were A/Prof Margie Sunde (Sydney University) and Prof. Mike Ryan (Monash University).

UQ Spring Cryo-EM Symposium
Date/Venue: 23rd November 2016, AIBN Building – University of Queensland.
Details: QPG helped to support the UQ Spring Symposium in Cryo-EM which was organised by Michael Landsberg (University of Queensland) and featured keynote talks from Dr Adam Frost (UCSF) and Qing Wang (ThermoFisher Scientific). A number of local students and postdocs also presented their work involving the use of cryo-EM.
The symposium was sponsored by ThermoFIsher Scientific, the Queensland Protein Group and the UQ Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis.

UPDATE: The winner of this year’s award was Dr Thomas Ve who gave an outstanding oral presentation at ComBio titled ‘Structural basis of TIR domain assembly formation in MyD88-dependent TLR4 signalling’ describing molecular, X-ray crystallographic and cryo electron microscopy studies of proteins that play a central role in the innate immune response.

ECPM15 – East Coast Protein Meeting
Date/Venue: 24-26th July 2015, Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
Details: The biennial East Coast Protein Meeting returned to Coffs Harbour again in 2015. This meeting, co-organised by the Sydney Protein Group and Queensland Protein Group provides a fantastic environment to present and discuss research in any protein-related field, with a focus on providing opportunities for PhD students and Postdocs to present their work.
This year’s plenary speakers were Dr Mark Kvansakul (Latrobe University) and Prof. Juliet Gerrard (University of Auckland). This year’s meeting also saw the addition to the program of a careers-focused talk to be given by Prof. Jenny Martin (University of Queensland) which will be followed by a round-table discussion. 
Sponsors for this event, without whom it could not have been made possible, were the Queensland NSW branches of the ASBMB, ANSTO, Bruker, Merck Millipore, APAF, ATA Scientific and of course, the QPG and SPG.

Date/Venue: 9am – 3pm, 14-15th November 2012, The University of Queensland, St Lucia, Brisbane.

QPG Mini-symposium at UQ
Date/Venue: 1.30pm – 3.30pm, 9th August 2012, Queensland Biosciences Precinct, St Lucia, Brisbane.
Details: A mini-symposium in Structural Biology was held at the UQ Queensland Biosciences Precinct. The Keynote Speaker was Prof. Ian WIlson from the Scripps Research Institute (California, USA) who presented a seminar entitled “High-throughput Structural Biology”. The program also featured talks by Dr Michelle Christie (SCMB, UQ), who was chosen to represent QPG at the Special Interest Group Symposium at this year’s ComBio meeting, as well as Dr Xing Yu (Glycomics, Griffith U) and Mr Simon De Veer (IHBI, QUT).
The symposium was supported by the Queensland Protein Group.

South East Queensland Structural Biology Forum: Special Seminar
Date/Venue: 3.30pm – 5pm, 24th August 2011, Queensland Biosciences Precinct, St Lucia, Brisbane.
Details: A/Prof. Martin Scanlon from the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences presented a special seminar titled ‘New drugs for bad bugs – targeting bacterial virulence using fragment based drug design’ as part of the South East Qld Structural Biology Forum.
The South East Qld Structural Biology Seminars are proudly supported by Merck-Millipore, the Queensland Protein Group, Millenium Science, Life Technologies and Sigma Isotec.

East Coast Protein Meeting 2011
Date/Venue: 15-17th July 2011, Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
Details: This biennial meeting is a joint initiative of the Queensland and Sydney Protein Groups and this year we welcomed our sister organisation, the Melbourne Protein Group as well. The meeting was designed to provide a forum for Postdocs and Students to present their work in any protein-related field. Plenary speakers this year were Ted Baker (University of Auckland) and Peter Waterhouse (University of Sydney). 

Minisymposium: Hot Methods in Structural Biology
Date/Venue: 3.30pm – 6pm, 1st June 2011, Queensland Biosciences Precinct, St Lucia, Brisbane.
Details: A minisymposium focused on hot methods in structural biology was held at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, on 1st June 2011. The meeting featured presentations by Prof Matt Cooper, Prof Jenny Martin and Dr Mehdi Mobli presented recent technological advances in structure-based drug design, membrane protein crystallisation and high throughput NMR.
This event was supported by Merck-Millipore, the Queensland Protein Group, Millenium Science and Life Technologies.

PDBe Roadshow
Date/Venue: 18th March 2011, University of Queensland, St Lucia, Queensland.
Details: The European Bioinformatics Institute presented a roadshow on the PDB in Brisbane on the 18th of March, 2011. The roadshow was presented by Dr Sameer Velankar, who is responsible for scientific content and integration at PDB. T

Queensland Protein Group: Student Research Award 2008
Date/Venue: 16th June 2008, The University of Queensland.
Details: The Queensland Protein Group held a one day symposium to award outstanding Honours and PhD student who’s research is in protein science, including but not limited to structural biology, cell biology, modelling, biochemistry and proteomics. Students studying any aspect or protein science were encouraged to participate in the event.
Students were selected from abstracts and invited to give short presentations on their research, with several prizes awarded for travel to the 2008 Combio Conference in Canberra.

Queensland Protein Expression Symposium 2007
Date/Venue: 22nd-23rd November 2007, The University of Queensland.
Details: The SRC for Functional and Applied Genomics, Protein Expression Facility, held a two-day technology symposium to review key technologies and strategies for protein expression. The symposium provided excellent opportunities to network with local/interstate/international researchers in the field as well as exhibits from leading bioscience companies displaying the latest in protein expression and purification technologies.
Topics included: Bacterial Expression, Yeast Expression, Baculovirus/insect cell expression, Mammalian cell expression, Cell-free expression, Industry case studies

East Coast Protein Meeting 2007
Date/Venue: 12-14th July 2007, Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.
Details: The meeting was a joint initiative by the Queensland Protein Group and the Sydney Protein Group. This two-day conference has in the past been an excellent arena for established and young protein scientists to mix on an equal footing in a relaxed atmosphere. One of the primary goals of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for younger protein scientists to present their work – most presentations were selected from submitted abstracts. The Queensland Protein Group and Sydney Protein Group were sponsors of prizes for the best student and postdoctoral presentations. 

Mechanisms of nucleo-cytoplasmic transport conference
Date/Venue: 9am – 5pm, 14th April 2005, UQ St Lucia Campus, Brisbane.
Details: A one-day conference ‘Mechanisms of nucleo-cytoplasmic transport’ will take place at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, on 14 April 2005. Invited national and international speakers presented recent findings in the areas of nuclear transport and cancer, development and disease, nuclear ligands and receptors, and structural insights into transport mechanisms. The invited speakers included Murray Stewart (LMB, Cambridge, UK), David Jans (Monash University, Vic), Beric Henderson (Westmead Institute, NSW), Sabine Piller (St. Vincent’s Hospital, NSW), Kum Kum Khanna (QIMR) and Michael Waters and Melissa Brown (UQ).
The conference was supported by the Queensland Protein Group.

Queensland Protein Group BBQ
Date/Venue: 5pm, 14th April 2005, UQ St Lucia Campus, Brisbane
Details: All protein researchers were invited to the Queensland Protein Group BBQ, which took place in the “Secret Garden” at the Molecular Biosciences Building (number 76), University of Queensland, St. Lucia.
