ASBMB Carers Support Award

Purpose:
The ASBMB is committed to promoting a culture of inclusion, diversity and equity. In line with this, the Society provides financial support to ASBMB members with primary caring responsibilities while they are attending an annual ASBMB scientific meeting (applicable to both ComBio and ASBMB meetings).

Value: 
Up to $2,500 available each year.

Eligibility: 

  • Nominees should have been ASBMB members for at least two years immediately preceding their application.
  • Anyone with primary caring responsibilities, including for children, elderly parents, and/or other family members with caring needs can apply. Funds can be used to support care giver responsibilities, for example, children’s travel costs, travel of a carer or childcare costs while attending the meeting or to cover other family or carer related issues that may otherwise be inhibitory to recipients participating in ASBMB meetings.
  • Available to any presenter at the meeting, but priority is allocated the following order: invited speakers, speakers selected from abstracts, and poster presenters selected from abstracts.
Application Process:
  • Email the ASBMB Secretary, Victor Anggono, v.anggono@uq.edu.au with a brief description of your caring responsibilities and how the funds would be spent (including a rough estimate of costs).
  • Applications are due one week after the Local Conference Organising Committee notifies abstract acceptance. 
Selection and Conditions of Award:
  • The selection committee will be comprised of the ASBMB Executive.
  • The applicant must deliver their presentation in person at the conference.
  • The recipient/s will need to submit receipts to the ASBMB Treasurer to substantiate expenses, which may include additional childcare costs at home or at the conference site, travel costs for an additional carer to be at your home during your absence, travel costs for child/ren and additional carer to accompany you, etc.
