ASBMB Travel Bursary

The ASBMB will consider applications from its student and early-career researcher (ECR) members for funding to cover the registration costs for an ASBMB conference. These awards are designed to assist students and ECRs with interstate travel and enable their participation in society meetings. This year, the ComBio meeting will take place at the International Convention Centre in Sydney from September 29 to October 1, 2026. For further details, please visit the website

Conditions:
1. The student applicant must be currently enrolled in an honours or postgraduate degree programme in the year their application is made. There is no age limit.
2. The ECR applicant must obtain their PhD degree not more than 5 years prior to the application deadline. 
3. The applicant must be a current ASBMB member and have been a member for at least 1 year prior to the year in which their application is made OR join the society on a 3 year student membership prior to submitting this application. 
4. The applicant must register for the meeting by the EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION deadline (currently 29 June 2026).
5. The applicant must submit an abstract to the meeting and attach a copy of their abstract to this application. 
6. Preference will be given to students / ECRs with supervisors who are ASBMB members and registered to attend ComBio 2026.
7. Preference will be given to students / ECRs needing to travel interstate to attend the meeting in Sydney, NSW. The society will also accept applications from students and ECRs who are substantially based at a university campus located in a regional area, generally defined as any location outside the greater Sydney metropolitan area. Note, we will prioritise students requiring significant air travel.   
8. Successful applicants will receive their award as a refund of their registration fee from the conference organisers.
